Overview

The Marina Village Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out Westmorland and Furness Council’s development, design, and infrastructure requirements for the Marina Village Residential Opportunity site, located off Salthouse Road to the southeast of Barrow Town Centre. The SPD relates to the residential site, allocated as SHL001 Marina Village, Barrow, in the adopted Barrow Borough Local Plan 2016-2031.

We consulted on this SPD in August and September 2024. Responses received during the consultation have been taken into account and the final draft SPD has been updated where appropriate (see 'Related' documents below).

Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) – December 2024

Internal review identified that an update to the Habitats Regulation Assessment for the site should be produced ahead of the adoption of the SPD due to its proximity to National Site Network sites and Ramsar sites of international importance (i.e. European sites), designated for their nature conservation value.

A small number of amendments to the SPD were proposed as mitigation against likely significant effects on the integrity of the nature designations. A schedule of these changes can be found below. We are now consulting for 4 weeks in relation solely to these additional amendments. Following which the SPD will be finalised and taken to Cabinet for adoption.
