Kendal Market Place and Kent Street – Early Engagement Questionnaire for Stakeholders

Closes 10 Nov 2025

Opened 13 Oct 2025

Overview

The Heart of Kendal, funded by the UK Government’s Local Regeneration Fund (formerly known as the Levelling Up Fund), is a bold vision to revitalise Kendal by setting out an exciting approach to town centre regeneration. The projects aims to transform and regenerate the town centre in a way that is both sensitive to the town's heritage and adaptive for the future, to create a better social, economic and cultural environment for all.

The enhancements of Market Place and Kent Street are aimed at creating a sense of arrival through increasing their role in the town. Kendal Market Place will be improved to create a high quality and vibrant space that encourages markets, events and activities for all. The proposals will look to create a more inviting space that limits vehicle dominance through a transformed public realm that reflects the character and identity of Kendal.

The overall aim for the project is to create a community space linking Market Place and Kent Street and reconnecting the riverside to the town centre through a more attractive and safer environment.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to gather diverse perspectives, insights, and priorities from those who operate, work, or have an interest in this public space, and help ensure that the regeneration plans reflect our community needs, values, and aspirations.

The results of this questionnaire will serve as an early engagement tool to identify key issues, opportunities, and areas of concern, enabling the project team to make informed and inclusive choices. We will be consulting more widely with stakeholders and the general public as designs are produced over the course of the project.

We appreciate your time in filling in this questionnaire openly and honestly, and offering valuable feedback to help shape our town centre.
