Draft Design Code Consultation 2025 - Short Survey

Closes 14 Dec 2025

Opened 3 Nov 2025

Overview

Draft Design Code - Short Survey

Westmorland and Furness Council has prepared a draft Design Code following earlier community engagement where you told us about your views on design for Westmorland and Furness. Responses to this early engagement were published in our Design Code Early Engagement Report (December 2024)

Once adopted the Design Code will be used to help shape developments in the future by guiding how new homes and business premises are designed and built. While the Design Code contains detailed technical guidance, it is built around clear values that reflect what our communities told us matters most.

This short survey is designed to collect views on the big issues that have shaped the draft Design Code. The survey will be open until 14 December 2025. For more information or to request an alternative format please contact localplan@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk

The final Design Code will be a digital document, making it a user-friendly online tool.

How to share your views

This short survey introduces and covers some of the big ideas in the Design Code.

You may also wish to explore the detailed codes contained within the Design Code and share your feedback on these in our long survey. Details of this are available on our Design Code project page

You can also visit one of our in-person drop-in events - for more information, see our Design Code project page

Why your views matter

Although the Design Code is quite a technical document, it is important that it has been shaped by local people and those with local knowledge. That is why we’re asking for your feedback on the draft Design Code.
